Google has thousands of products and services running with them. But, Google is shutting down some of their services. Google has already shut down some of their products. We will see the top 10 products Google has decided to shut down or has already being deprecated.
The list has some of their killer products which were doing well. Google is planning a “Spring Cleanup” of the products and services which was officially announced to the public on 4th July 2012.
1. Google Wave
Google Wave is a software framework for real time collaborative editing online.
Google Wave was the first shot at social networking by Google. By August 2012, Google wave would be ended. Check here.
iGoogle is a personalized homepage from Google, which has customization options to set up your favorite gadgets and tools. This tool was launched in 2005 and would be ending by 1st Nov, 2013. Google has admitted that iGoogle has eroded over time.
3. Google Friend Connect
Known as Friend Connect is an online service from Google that allows website and blog owners to add social features to their websites.
On Nov 23, 2011 Google’s Senior Vice president of Operations announced that Friend Connect would be retired for all non-Blogger sites. Google started encouraging the usage of Google+ badges instead of Friend Connect.
4. Google Buzz
Google’s fast indulgent with the Google Plus social networking meant the end of Google Buzz. Google Buzz was a combination of social networking, microblogging, and a messaging tool from Google launched on Feb 9, 2010 and ended in Dec 11, 2011.
Picnik was an interesting twist by Google. Google acquired the smart online photo editing tool Picnik in March 2010 but, by Jan 2012 it announced that it was shutting down the service and assigning those who cam with Picnik to develop Google+ photo editing services.
6. Google Sync for Blackberry
Google decided to cut off the support of Google sync functionality to Blackberry which streamed Google contacts, Calender and Gmail on 1st June 2012.
7. Google Video
Google Video was an impressive hit which made to this far online even after Google bought YouTube in 2006. But, last week Google announced that they are shutting down the Google Video services and they are going to move all the videos to YouTube.
8. Google Graph API
In Jan 2012, Google said that its project to provide an API to make information about social connections between web users available to app developers wasn’t experiencing the right kind of adoption.
9. Google Desktop
Sep 2011, was the end of Google Desktop because Google said that providing instant data to the users was accomplished by other means.
10. Google Notebook
Google Notebook was an online free tool which allowed users to write notes, clip texts and images, and also save the link and can be shared. The service was killed by Google on September 2011. Later, Google allowed the users of Google Notebook to migrate all their contents to Google Docs.
